In the mature tertiary follicle, primary oocyte completes its first unequal meiotic division in which secondary oocyte and tiny first polar body is formed and gets arrested in metaphase II stage of the meiotic division until the sperms fuses and cause fertilization.
When sperms penetrate secondary oocyte, it now completes its second unequal meiotic division and forms a very tiny polar body and the ovum.
