When sulphur (S) reacts with oxygen gas (O2), it produces
Acidic Oxides
Non-metals on reaction with oxygen gas give rise to non-metallic oxides. These non-metallic oxides on reaction with H2O give acidic substances. Since sulphur is a non-metal. It forms SO2 and SO3 which on reaction with water form acids, H2SO3 and H2SO4 respectively.
S + O2 → SO2
SO2 + H2O → H2SO3
