Non-metals on reaction with oxygen gas give rise to non-metallic oxides. These non-metallic oxides on reaction with $H_{2} O$ give acidic substances. Here, sulphur is a non-metal. It forms $S O_{2}$ and $S O_{3}$ which on reaction with water form acids, $H_{2} S O_{3}$ and $H_{2} S O_{4}$ .
