When the difference in electronegativity of two elements in a compound is more than 1.7, what is the nature of the chemical bond?
Ionic bond
Nature of bond is ionic when the difference in electronegativity is more than 1.7, and covalent when it is less than 1.7. For example difference in electronegativity in sodium chloride is 2.23 which is greater than 1.7, hence it shows ionic character.
A co-ordinate bond is a covalent bond (formed by sharing pair of electrons) in which both electrons come from the same atom.
A hydrogen bond is an attraction between two atoms that already participate in other chemical bonds. One of those atoms is hydrogen, while the other may be any electronegative atom, such as oxygen, chlorine, or fluorine. E.g., H2O, HCl, HF, etc...
