For case 1 : real image,
u=u1
v=Ku1

1Ku1+1u1=1f .................(i)

For case 2 : virtual image of same size as real image of case 1,
u=u2
v=Ku2

1Ku2+1u2=1f .................(ii)

On solving (i) and (ii), we get,
f=12(u1+u2)
