Solution

The correct option is D bask in the sun
Organisms living in different habitats have different mechanisms to cope up with the changes in their environment. Some of these mechanisms include development of specialised morphological structures, physiological processes or changes in their behavioural patterns. These mechanisms are termed as adaptations.

Desert lizards are reptiles and hence are cold-blooded or poikilotherms. They are unable to maintain a constant internal body temperature and they conform their body temperature with the changes in the external environments.

Desert lizards control their body temperature via behavioural adaptations. When the desert becomes too hot during the day, it hides in shady places to keep itself cool. So option a is incorrect.

During winter, when the temperatures fall below its comfort zone, desert lizard basks in the sun to keep itself warm. Hence option d is correct.

Unlike warm-blooded animals (homeotherms) like mammals and birds, desert lizards are unable to maintain a constant body temperature by generating heat by metabolic processes. Hence option b is incorrect.

Desert lizards generally have thin and scaly skin which is incapable of providing any insulation to them. Fat beneath the skin prevents heat loss in animals which live in extremely cold climates such as in the Polar regions. Hence option c is incorrect.
