A pendulum clock keeps proper time at temperature θo. If temperature is increased to θ(>θo), then due to linear expansion, length of pendulum increases and hence its time period will increase.
Let T=2πLog at temperature θo
and T=2πLg at temperature θ
TT=LL=L(1+αθ)L=1+12αθ
change in time per unit time lapsed
TTT=12αθ
Fractional change in time period TT=12αθ
So, as the temperature increases, length of pendulum increases and hence time period of pendulum increases. Due to increment in its time period, a pendulum dock become slow in summer and will lose time.
