Question

When water is cooled at a temperature X, it gets converted into ice at temperature X by a process called P. And when ice at temperature X is warmed, it gets reconverted into the water at the same temperature X in a process called Q.

(a) What is the value of temperature X in Kelvin?

(b) What is the process P known as?

(c) What is the name of energy released during process P?

(d) What is the process Q known as?

(e) What is the name of energy absorbed during process Q?

Solution

Here X = 10C .

Here P process is freezing as water converts to ice.

Q is called melting as ice is converted into liquid (water) form.

(a) 0C = 0 + 273.16 = 373.16 K

(b) P process is known as freezing as water is being converted to ice.

(c) Latent Heat of freezing is released during process P

(d) Q process is known as melting as solid ice changes to liquid.

(e) Latent Heat of fusion is the heat released during process Q
