Solution

The correct option is B False

Electrolysis:

  1. Electrolysis of water is the process of using electricity (electric current) to decompose water into Oxygen and Hydrogen gas.
  2. For electrolysis of water, we cannot use the water which is free of all impurities( pure water) because it does not have enough ions and can't be used as an electrolyte as it cannot ionize itself.
  3. Usually salt water is used in electrolysis as it's made of ions and this allows a mixture of positive and negative charges in the water, which helps to conduct an electric current required/used for electrolysis.

Therefore, the given statement - When water is electrolyzed, it should preferably be free of all impurities is false.
