Solution

Breathing:

  • The act of ventilating a respiratory surface with air is referred to as breathing.
  • Breathing is normally achieved through muscular movements that can be classified as inspiration (intake of breath) and expiration (expulsion of air) (outflow of air).

Functioning during breathing:

  • Inhaled air contains 20.94 percent oxygen, 0.04 percent carbon dioxide, 79.02 percent nitrogen, and trace gases.
  • Exhaled air contains 16.49 percent oxygen, 4.49 percent carbon dioxide, 79.02 percent nitrogen, and other trace gases.

Nitrogen during breathing:

  • Nitrogen is an inert gas
  • There is no difference in the nitrogen fraction of inhaled and exhaled air during breathing.
