Question

When we move the magnet away from the coil , why does the induced current set up in opposite direction?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student

when a magnet is taken away from a coil,

the magnetic field of the magnet linked with the coil decreases.

so, the coil will set an induced current in a direction which adds up to the decreasing magnetic field.(Lenz law)

Now, the direction of the current can be found out by curling the fingers of right hand in direction of magnetic field and thumb giving the direction of the current.
