Solution

A simple microscope contains only one biconvex lens with a short focal length. The simple convex lens can be used to produce the enlarged image of only those objects placed in its focal length. So, a simple microscope has only one level of magnification. In other words, the magnification of the simple microscope is not adjustable. So a simple microscope can be used when there is not any necessity of the rigorous research of the specimen under study.

The compound microscope has two sets of the lens, including an eyepiece and objective lens. Also, it has a higher level of magnification, and it is adjustable. Due to this, a compound microscope is used to do rigorous research on minute objects. The structure of the microorganism, the cells, and the organelles can be studied using the compound microscope. It is also used to compare the differences between various cells and abnormalities.
