Zn + 2 HCl = ZnCl2 + H2
Effervescence is due to hydrogen gas released.
Metal reacts with acid to produce metal salt and hydrogen gas.
Here, zinc displaces hydrogen from hydrochloric acid to form zinc chloride and hydrogen gas.
So, this chemical reaction is called as displacement reaction.
