a. Cotton textile industry is one of the largest and has been an integral part of India from time immemorial.
b . Production of cotton , hand spinning and weaving has rather been an ancient practise in India .
c. Cotton weaving and spinning existed even during Harrapan civilization .
d. During the pre British period, handicraft industry existed in Surat, Madura, Madras, Dacca .
e. However, a proper factory production of cotton goods began in the mid of 19th century with the setting up of the first factory of cotton textile at Ghusuri near Kolkata in 1818 .
