Spermatogenesis:

  1. The formation of male gamete(sperm) is known as spermatogenesis.
  2. Spermatogonia undergo many numbers of stages to give rise to spermatids.
  3. Each spermatogonium gives rise to four spermatids.
  4. Spermatids get embedded in the Sertoli cell and get transformed into sperms.
  5. Spermatogenesis occurs in seminiferous tubules of testes.

Oogenesis

  1. The formation of the female gamete(ovum) is known as oogenesis.
  2. Oogonia grow larger and form Primary oocyte.
  3. The primary oocyte undergoes first meiotic division to form the secondary oocyte and a polar body.
  4. During ovulation secondary oocyte is released into the follicular fluid and the Graafian follicle ruptures and releases Ova.
  5. Oogenesis occurs in the ovary.
