Sporophylls:

  1. A sporophyll is a modified leaf that bears sporangia.
  2. In a plant, if the sporophyll bears female sporangia, they are known as megasporophyll.
  3. If the sporophyll bears male sporangia, they are known as microsporophyll.
  4. Sporophylls lead to the development of male and female gametophytes of seed plant.

Location:

  1. The sporophylls are located near the base of the plant producing spores, which forms the reproductive part of the plant.
  2. They are mostly found in vegetative part of the stems.
  3. Sporophylls appears to be as normal foliage leaves in the ferns but in gymnosperms and flowers of angiosperms, it occurs in the form of strobili or cones.
