(i) The mitral valve

  1. Mitral valve is also known as bicuspid valve or left atrio-ventricular valve.
  2. LOCATION: The mitral valve is present between the left atrium and the left ventricle.
  3. FUNCTION: It prevents the backflow of blood from left ventricle to left atrium during ventricular contraction.

(ii) The tricuspid valve

  1. LOCATION: The tricuspid valve is located between the right atrium and right ventricle. Hence it is also known as the right atrio-ventricular valve.
  2. FUNCTION: The tricuspid valve prevents the backflow of blood from right ventricle to right atrium during ventricular contraction.
