Question

Where does DNA replication occur in a cell?

Open in App
Solution

DNA replication:

  1. DNA replication is a process of the formation of new DNA strands.
  2. DNA replication is a semi-conservative method where one new strand synthesizes on an old one.
  3. In eukaryotes, as DNA is present inside the nucleus, DNA replication takes place inside the nucleus.
  4. Whereas in Prokaryotes, no well-developed nucleus is found.
  5. Also, no nuclear separation is seen due to the lack of a nuclear membrane.
  6. Hence, in prokaryotes, cytoplasm occurs.
  7. DNA replication occurs in the nucleus in eukaryotes, whereas in cytoplasm in prokaryotes.
