Erythropoiesis starts in liver.
Erythropoiesis starts in mesoderm of the yolk sac from third week to third month in the embryo. Between third fifth month it occurs in the liver and spleen and from fifth month onwards hepatic phase cease to exist and erythropoiesis occurs in the red bone marrow.
