It can occur at two places:
● Inside the body of the female: The process involving fusion of male and female gametes inside the body of the organism (usually female) is known as internal fertilisation.
● Outside the body of the female: The process involving fusion of male and female gametes outside the body of the organism, usually in the external medium (like water) is known as external fertilisation.
