The adipose tissue is a specialized tissue that stores fat.
The cells of the adipose tissue are filled with fat globules called adipocytes.
Each cell is round or oval in shape containing a large droplet of fat and a peripheral cytoplasm with the nucleus at one end.
The fat cells are arranged in lobules and are separated by a partition made up of collagen and elastin fibers.
Location
It is found below the skin and between internal organs, i.e., subcutaneous region, cushion around eyes, heart, kidneys, blood vessels, and in the yellow bone marrow.
Function
It helps in the storage of fat and acts as an insulator.
It provides shape to the limbs and the body.
It forms shock-absorbing cushions around important organs.
