Diamond:

  • Diamond is one of the allotropes of carbon.
  • In diamonds, carbons are arranged in crystal-like structures.
  • It has the highest hardness and thermal conductivity.

Occurrence of diamond:

  • It has been found from the ages of 1 billion to 3.5 billion years.
  • Most of the diamond was formed at the thwaspth of Earth's mantle (about 150 to 250 km deep).
  • Under very high temperatures and pressure, the fluid containing carbon dissolves various minerals and replaces them with diamonds.
  • Diamonds are carried to the surfaces during the eruption of the volcano and deposited in the Igneous rock known as kimberlites, and lamproites.
