Gypsum: Gypsum is a Calcium sulfate dihydrate represented as CaSO4·2H2O

Occurrence of gypsum:

  • Gypsum is found worldwide and its deposits are extended from Mexico, Baja across Utah, and from Southwest Texas to the Niagara Rivers in New York City.
  • Most commonly found in the layers of the Sedimentary rocks.

Uses of gypsum:

  • It can be used as fertilizers, prevent erosion of soil, help in the translocation of water and air and promotes root growth.
  • It provides Calcium and Sulphur which helps in the absorption of nutrients and improve the yield of crops respectively.
  • It can be used to clear the impurities from the still water.
