Solution

Simple squamous epithelial cells:

  1. This type of epithelial cell consists of a single layer of large flat cells whose edges fit closely like the tiles of the floor.
  2. So it is also called pavement epithelium.
  3. These cells rest on a thin basement membrane.
  4. This is located in the inner side of blood vessels and also in the inner lining of the body cavities, so it is called tesselated due to its wavy appearance.

Location:

  1. It is found in cells lining blood vessels and transports substances that occur through a selectively permeable surface.
  2. It occurs in the lining of the esophagus and the lining of the mouth and gives protection.
  3. It forms the skin and protects the body from bacterial and viral infection by acting as a barrier.
  4. It occurs in the alveoli of the lungs, where diffusion of gases takes place between the lungs and blood.
