The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is the second largest inter-governmental organization after the United Nations with a membership of 57 states spread over four continents. The Organization is the collective voice of the Muslim world. It endeavors to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony among various people of the world.

In 1970 the first ever meeting of Islamic Conference of Foreign Minister (ICFM) was held in Jeddah which decided to establish a permanent secretariat in Jeddah headed by the organization’s secretary general.

Context: The 46th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation was held in Abu Dhabi and the Minister for External Affairs Smt. Sushma Swaraj has been invited as the "Guest of Honour” to address the Inaugural Plenary.

स्पष्टीकरण : इस्लामिक सहयोग संगठन (OIC) संयुक्त राष्ट्र के बाद दूसरा सबसे बड़ा अंतर-सरकारी संगठन है। 4 महाद्वीपों में स्थित कुल 57 देश इसके सदस्य है। यह संगठन मुस्लिम दुनिया की सामूहिक आवाज है। इस्लामिक सहयोग संगठन का मुख्य उद्देश्य अंतरराष्ट्रीय शांति और सद्भावना को बढ़ावा देने के साथ-साथ मुस्लिम देशों के हितों की सुरक्षा करना और इसके लिए आवाज बुलंद करना है। इस्लामिक कॉन्फ्रेंस के विदेश मंत्रियों (ICFM) की पहली बैठक 1970 में जेद्दा में हुई, जिसमें संगठन के महासचिव की अध्यक्षता में जेद्दा में एक स्थायी सचिवालय स्थापित करने का निर्णय लिया गया।

संदर्भ : हाल ही में इस्लामिक सहयोग संगठन के विदेश मंत्रियों की परिषद का 46 वां सत्र अबू धाबी में आयोजित किया गया था और विदेश मंत्री श्रीमती सुषमा स्वराज को उद्घाटन समारोह को संबोधित करने के लिए "गेस्ट ऑफ ऑनर" के तौर पर आमंत्रित किया गया था।
