Question

Where will the image be formed by a concave mirror when an object is placed between the pole and the focus point of the mirror?

Solution

In a concave mirror, the nature of the formed image is completely dependent on the distance as well as the position of the object from the pole.

The following ray diagram shows the position of image formation.

  1. In the above diagram, it is shown that a ray from the object that is placed in between ‘F’ and ‘P’ is parallel to the principal axis.
  2. Ray is drawn from point ‘C’ and the line passing through point ‘F’ seems to meet at point ‘I’ behind the mirror.
  3. This makes the image enlarged and erect.
  4. It forms the virtual image behind the mirror.
