Question

where will you find an animal with small ears ,tails and legs -in polar regions or desert ? Why short answer ?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student
The animals with small ears ,tails and legs are seen polar region or in cold region because animals living in cold climates need to conserve as much heat as possible,
this shorter legs , ears etc helps the animal to have evolved comparatively low surface area to volume ratio to minimize the surface area by which they dissipate heat, allowing them to retain more heat. For animals living in warm climates, it is opposite: that they should have comparatively high ratios of surface area to volume. Because animals with low surface area-to-volume ratios will overheat quickly, animals in warm climates should have high surface area-to-volume ratios to maximize the surface area through which they dissipate heat, allowing them to dissipate more heat. Endothermic animals properly adapted to their native environments are able to regulate their body temperatures more efficiently, thereby conserving resources that can be used for other tasks.
hope this helps you
