In reaction of 2 H₂O -------> 2H₂+O₂

i. Oxygen is removed from water, so it is reduction,
ii. At the same time, hyrogen is also removed from molecule, so it is oxidation.

Since oxidation and reduction takes place simultaneously, hence the reaction is a redox reaction.
