The hormones adrenaline (epinephrine) and nor-adrenaline (nor-epinephrine), secreted by the adrenal medulla, have the same effect as the sympathetic stimulation, i.e. they increase the heart rate. Adrenaline has a greater effect on the heart and metabolic processes whereas nor-adrenaline has more influence on blood vessel diameter.
