The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is a United Nations program headquartered in New York City. It was established on 11 December 1946 and is a member of the United Nations Development Group. It works in 190 countries and territories to save children’s lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfill their potential. It was originally established to provide emergency food and healthcare to children in countries that had been devastated by World War II.
