Depending on their function, nerves are known as sensory, motor, or mixed. The sensory nerves, carry information from the outside world, like sensations of heat, cold, and pain, to the brain and spinal cord.
Motor nerves, transmit impulses from the brain and spinal cord to the muscles. When we have both the functions carried by one combined nerve form we call them mixed nerve. Mixed nerves are composed of both motor and sensory fibers, and transmit messages in both directions at once.
