Question

Which among the following changes are exothermic or endothermic in nature.

Decomposition of ferrous sulphate.

Open in App
Solution

  • Endothermic reactions are reactions where energy is absorbed in the form of heat. For example, the melting of ice cubes.
  • Exothermic reactions are reactions in which energy is released in the form of heat. For example, rusting of iron.

Decomposition of ferrous sulfate:

FeSO4(s)ferroussulphateFe2O3(s)ferricoxide+SO2(g)sulphurdioxide+SO3(g)sulphurtrioxide

The ferrous sulfate decomposes to give the ferric oxide, sulfur dioxide, and sulfur trioxide. There is the absorption of heat in this reaction thus it is an endothermic reaction.
