To convert the iron bar into a magnet, another bar magnet is necessary. The following steps are to be followed:
i) Take an iron bar and a bar magnet.
ii) Keep the bar magnet in contact with one of its poles (either north or south pole) at the edge of the iron bar.
iii) Without breaking the contact, move the bar magnet along the length of the iron bar till the other end is reached.
iv) Lift the magnet and bring the same pole to the point on the iron bar from which you started.
v) Move the magnet again along the iron bar in the same direction as before.
vi) Repeat this process few times. Bring iron nails near the iron bar to check if it is converted to a magnet or not.
