Fungi are neither related to plants nor animals. In fact, they form a separate kingdom called Kingdom Mycota. Fungi are commonly used for a variety of purposes i.e. from making antibiotic medicines such as penicillin to making bread and beer (by the fermentation by yeast). All fungi are strictly heterotrophic. They may be parasitic or saprophytic. Some fungi are indeed poisonous but many are edible too!. Mushrooms, for example, are eaten across the world and they are rich in nutrient value.
