If we form a solution by mixing salt and sand in water, it is observed that sand is insoluble in water whereas sodium chloride is soluble. Therefore, filtration can be used for separation of this mixture. Filtration is a separation technique that is used to separate a solid that has not dissolved in a liquid. In this process a filter paper is placed inside a glass funnel and a container is put beneath in order to obtain the clear solution without precipitate (sand in this case).
