The Aam Aadmi party was formed during the India Against Corruption movement that was led by social activist Anna Hazare. The failure of the central government to agree to the people’s demands of passing the Jan Lokpal Bill led to the formation of the party. It was formally launched on 26 November, 2012. The first election AAP decided to contest was the Delhi Assembly election of December, 2013. In alliance with the Congress, it formed the government on 28 December, 2013. It left the government after 49 days leading to the re-elections in Delhi in 2015. It came back to power by winning a historic 67 seats with a 54% vote share. Thus, it had cemented its place in the political map of India.
