Solution
The correct option is D
The sporophytes of pteridophytes produce the sex organs
Pteridophytes are seedless vascular plants which are characterised by a sporophytic dominant plant body with true roots, stems and leaves. In vascular tissues, xylem lacks true vessels and phloem lacks companion cells. In majority of pteridophytes, all the spores are of the similar kind. Such plants are called homosporous. Some pteridophytes like Selaginella, Salvinia, etc. produce two kinds of spores macro (large) and micro (small) spores. Such plants are termed heterosporous. The gametophyte bears gametes which then fuse to form the zygote. The zygote then divides by mitosis to form the plant body or the sporophyte.
