Endosperm is a food storing tissue for the developing plant embryo. In dicots, the endosperm is remobilized into the developing cotyledon which function as the storage tissues. Hence, the nourishment is provided by the cotyledons.
Endosperm is not present in the mature dicotyledonous seeds such as bean, gram, pea etc. except castor seed which is endospermic.
Most of the monocotyledonous seeds are endospermic except orchids which are non-endospermic.
