Balkans is the term used for the modern day states of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, and Slovenia. This region extends to the south from central Europe into the Mediterranean Sea.
