Question

Which cell secrete Somatostatin hormone?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Somatostatin is a hormone secreted by the hypothalamus of the brain, delta cells of islets of Langerhans in the pancreas and argentaffin cells of the digestive tract.

It inhibits the secretion of growth hormone (somatotropin) from the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland. It also suppresses the release of other hormones from the pancreas and digestive tract. Somatostatin is released when there is high circulating concentrations of growth hormone in the blood. This increased growth hormone in the blood results in the secretion of somatostatin that reduces the rate of secretion of growth hormone.
