Which cells produce glucagon and what is their function?
Source of glucagon - Alpha cells
Function - raise the blood glucose
The alpha cells present in the Islets of Langerhans, a special group of cells in the pancreas secrete glucagon. Glucagon raises the blood sugar level in the body. It converts the glycogen stored in the liver to glucose. The beta cells in the islets of Langerhans secrete insulin. Insulin enhances the cellular uptake of glucose molecules. They also convert the glucose into glycogen in the liver and muscles.
