The cardiovascular system in birds helps them to meet the metabolic requirements of flight, swimming or diving. Like mammals the birds also have a heart with four chambers ( 2 atria and 2 ventricles) that completely separates the oxygenated and de-oxygenated blood. While the right ventricle pumps blood to the lungs, the left ventricle pumps blood to the rest of the body. However, oxygenated blood first flows from the lungs to the left atrium and continues to the left ventricle from where it is pumped out to the body.
So, the correct answer is option D.
