Open in App
Solution

  1. A battery is an electronic device that is capable of changing chemical energy into electrical energy.
  2. It works on the principle of the electrochemical cell and helps in the proper functioning of the battery.
  3. It may contain one or more electrochemical cells.
  4. Every electrochemical cell contains two electrodes and they are separated by electrolytes.
  5. The chemical used in the batteries depends upon the type of batteries: primary battery and secondary battery.
  6. The chemical batteries are lead-acid batteries, zinc carbon batteries, nickel-cadmium batteries, and lithium-ion batteries.
  7. Nickel-cadmium batteries are used for a longer period of time and may have an extended temperature rate and high discharge rate.
  8. Zinc carbon batteries contain manganese dioxide as a cathode and zinc as an anode.
  9. The electrolytes used in this battery are zinc chloride and ammonium chloride.
  10. Lead-acid batteries: These contain lead oxide and metallic lead as an anode.
  11. The battery also contains sulphuric acid as electrolytes.
  12. Lithium-ion batteries: In this type of battery carbon works as an anode lithium cobalt oxide as a cathode.
