Question

Which decides the rainfall patterns?

Open in App
Solution

Rainfall: It occurs when the humidity of a particular place increases, i.e., the water vapor content of the air leads to extensive cloud formation that upon saturation bursts and causes rain. Patterns of rainfall are decided primarily by:

  1. The wind patterns: Depending on the circulation of winds, the pressure of an area changes. Warm, humid winds result in low pressure that leads to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
  2. Vegetation: Greater vegetation implies a higher release of water vapor. This increases the humidity of the place and causes frequent rainfall.
  3. Ocean currents: The proximity of a place to the ocean influences the climatic conditions. Oceans and seas have a moderating impact due to the diurnal sea breeze that helps compensate for the rapid heating of the landmass.
