Which element is considered as the most versatile atom on Earth?
Carbon
Carbon is the only atom which can make single, double or tripple bonds. This is the only atom which has unlimited catenation capability. Other elements of the same group cannot accomplish the same characteristics as carbon.
Catenation is the bonding of atoms of the same element into a series, called a chain. A chain may be open if its ends are not bonded to each other, or closed if they are bonded in a ring.
