Question

Which equation has imaginary roots?

Open in App
Solution

For quadratic equations,

Imaginary roots always occur in conjugate pairs.

Let us take an example px2+qx+r=0

For the quadratic equation, we get imaginary roots if the discriminant value is negative.

i.e., q2-4pr<0, where q2-4pr is a discriminant of the quadratic equation.

Hence, Quadratic equation has imaginary root when discriminant is less than zero.
