Question

Which factor does not affect the rate of diffusion?

Open in App
Solution

Diffusion :

  1. Diffusion is the process of movement of molecules under a concentration gradient.
  2. It is an important process occurring in all living beings. Diffusion helps in the movement of substances in and out of the cells.
  3. The molecules move from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration until the concentration becomes equal throughout.

Factor not affecting rate of diffusion:-

  1. The factor that does not affect the rate of diffusion is the electrical charges of the diffusion particles.
  2. In a solution, the rate of diffusion gets affected by the presence of other particles, the solubility of diffusing particles in the lipids, the molecular size of the substances in the solution and more.
  3. Diffusion is a result of the random movement of particles, hence there is a gross flow of matter from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.
  4. A good example of this is the dispersing of air particles by perfume is sprayed, permeating the still air of a room.
