Which feature makes nephron a basic filtration unit?

Open in App
Solution

Nephron:

  • Nephron performs most of the functions of the kidney, like purification and filtration. Hence it is known as the functional unit of the kidneys.
  • The nephron is divided into these parts - Bowman's Capsule, Proximal convoluted tubule, Loop of Henle, and distal convoluted tubule.

The nephron is the basic filtration unit:

  • The basic filtration unit is the nephron because it removes waste from the blood by filtering it.
  • The glomerulus filters the fluid and segregates the waste materials, whereas the tubule does reabsorption.
  • The kidney is composed of millions of filtering units which are nephrons.
  • Each nephron has a cluster of thin wall capillaries that function in blood filtration.
