Solution

Welding: Welding is a process that is used for joining various metals or thermoplastics together by heating them at high temperatures and then cooling thereby causing fusion.

  • Gases used in welding and cutting processes are included in shielding gases such as carbon dioxide, argon, helium, etc.
  • Fuel gases such as acetylene, propane, butane, etc. oxygen, are used with fuel gases and also in small amounts in some shielding gas mixtures.
  • So, Ethyne gas is used for welding purposes because of its favorable flame characteristics of both high temperature and high propagation rates.
