Solution

The correct option is A

Gear 1

A gear is a rotating machine part having grooves (called teeth or cogs) over its surface in such shape and form that it meshes with other gear. Gears are used to change the direction and speed of motion.

The gear with the smallest diameter has less number of teeth as compared to the gear with the large diameter and so it turns around much faster to keep up. Hence, gear 1 will have the maximum speed of rotation.

Explanation:- Let's consider a point A (point of contact) between gear 1 and gear 2. Since the teeth on both gears must be of the same size for the gears to intermesh, the smaller gear has fewer teeth than the larger one. Notice that by the time the smaller gear 1 makes a complete rotation (all of its teeth have passed by the point A), the larger gear 2 would not have completed a full rotation (not all of its teeth will have passed by A). In other words, the smaller gear spins faster than the bigger one.
